I From our Kerul&r Corrcspoixfent.1 Washington, Oct. 16, 1S01. "Representative Mills-, said an Al liance man who strongly believes in the free coinage of silver, has, wheth er intentionally or not I cannot say, practically made the question of wheth er a free coinage.bill shall be pasted by th,e coming House of Representa tives an Issue in the Speakership cam paign". "How" he was asked. "Why, by stating that he had be come convinced that nothing practical in the way of silver legislation could be aceomplished by the next Congress. That statement I take mean that Mr. Mills has made up his mind that in the event of his being elected Speak er of the House he will so make up the membership of the House Coin age Committee that no free coinage bill can be reported to the Houe. This statement may gain Mr. Mills some votes, but, mark my words, un less repudiates it before the democrat ic caucus is held he will certainly be defeated for the Speakership nomina tion." The impression here seems to be that the result of the Ohio election will determine the position of all the Speakership candidates on the free coinage question, the belief being that if Campbell is elected it will mean a triumnh for irPA fni n 1 rro an.l U - & 11 I N tuai.au of the candidates will promise to as- age is to be put aside by them all for f v uviuicu I i IB VOIli- the time being, on the ground that it can wait Mr. Mills, who has just re turned from- Ohio, where he made speeches for his party, which is run- "nillfT rn f.
